Because you deserve to have a beautiful smile
Crowns, bridges and veneers all have cosmetic and restorative benefits. Designed to improve the structure, positioning, functionality and overall appearance of your teeth, crowns, bridges and veneers are popular treatments that can dramatically impact your everyday life.
These treatments are customised so that they suit your individual needs.
Fitting a crown, bridge or veneer shouldn’t be a time-consuming process, taking only a few visits at most.
As bridges, crowns and veneers can improve the overall appearance of your teeth, you’ll be able to smile with more confidence.
Crowns, bridges and veneers can be made from different materials, so you’ll be able to choose what works best for you.
The existing teeth are prepared: a small amount of enamel is removed to create room for the restoration.
Impressions of the teeth are made and sent to a dental laboratory, which creates the restoration.
Our dentists provide patients with temporary restorations to protect any exposed teeth and gums. A second appointment is arranged.
At the second visit, the temporary restoration is removed. The new restoration is checked and adjusted to suit each patient.
Crowns are very strong and usually last over 10 years as long as they are placed with careful planning and maintained well by the patient with good oral hygiene. Generally after many years, crowns tend to lose their lustre and may need to be placed due to aesthetics reasons.
Root canals are not required to place a crown, but most teeth that have undergone root canal treatment should be crowned.
Our dentists have taken a special interest in shade taking and use the latest technologies in dentistry to ensure the perfect shade match is achieved every time. In more complex cases, our dentists will bring their world-class dental ceramist to come into the surgery to confirm the shade match.
Black margins are a common aesthetic problem when crowns made of metal underneath ceramic are used. As our dentists will often use all ceramic crowns, this problem will not occur, and the entire tooth will be hidden under your beautiful new crown.
Bridges can vary in designs; generally, a wing of metal will be used to attach the new porcelain tooth to an adjacent tooth to fill any unsightly gaps. Sometimes, a full crown will be placed on the adjacent tooth, which is then attached to the new porcelain tooth. The materials used for bridges can vary from case to case, but generally, a metal fused to porcelain would be used or very strong porcelain will be used alone.
The process usually begins with the abutment (adjacent teeth to missing tooth/teeth) teeth being made ready for their crowns; a portion of their enamel will be removed to make room for a crown to be placed over them. Once this is complete, impressions of the teeth are made, impressions on which the bridge, pontic, and crowns will be based. These impressions will be sent away to a dental lab, while the patient is given a temporary bridge to wear. Once the dental lab has created the bridge, the patient will return to have it fitted and adjusted; this may take place over multiple visits whereupon the fit and bite are checked against active use.
